Remote Learning Updates

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Haddon Heights Child Study Team and Special Education Teachers have been working diligently to ensure that Annual Reviews, IEPs, and other meetings continue as planned and to also instruct and support students during remote instruction. As directed by the Department of Education, evaluations have been postponed and, in many cases, eligibility meetings have been postponed due to the inability to complete testing and/or not having the necessary information to determine eligibility.

We acknowledge that being a parent/guardian at any time, although rewarding, can be challenging and you are appreciated. We are grateful for all of the support you are providing at home and are looking forward to our continued partnership!

The following information pertains to students attending an in-district program. If you have questions regarding the services that your child is receiving from an Out of District School, please contact your Case Manager.

If your child/children receive/s Behavioral Consultations, Counseling, Speech, Occupational, or and or Physical Therapy as a related service within their IEP, please review the information below. The Teletherapy Consent Form must be completed in order for the providers to provide teletherapy.

Behavioral Consultations

We continue to use Brett DiNovi as a provider of Behavioral Supports. Kate Devane, the district’s assigned Board Certified Behavior Analyst, will be reaching out to you periodically to check in; however, should you require consultation to support meeting your child’s behavioral needs, please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Psychologist assigned to provide school based counseling will reach out directly to you to schedule a time to provide telepractice counseling services (if the related service frequency has not been met) while students are engaged in remote learning. In order to have a session, a parent/guardian or designated adult must be present. Our goal is to continue to support your child in a way that feels comfortable.  If your child’s session mandates have been met, however you have concerns, please let the Case Manager know. We recognize that needs may increase with big life changes!

Speech Therapy

Speech-Language Pathologists will be providing teletherapy while students are engaged in remote learning.  We are hopeful that our ability to work directly with students through an online tool will support instruction and student growth. Speech-Language Teletherapy services do present some unique considerations, especially regarding limits to confidentiality in small group or individual sessions.

If your elementary child receives speech services, you should have received an email survey from his/her assigned speech therapist. Once the therapist has received a response from you, they will establish a schedule and inform you of the scheduled time for therapy. For junior/senior high school students, the speech therapist will send a link, directly to your child through email, to join the session. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we begin this new scheduling and therapy platform.

Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy

Occupational and Physical Therapists will continue to create and email appropriate home programs and activities. They will also follow-up to contact you to review the information, provide suggestions, modifications, and to problem solve, as needed. While these services are provided from a more "consultative model," they will continue to support and advance the student's skills.
Update: OT and PT will be providing services through Teletherapy!

The Haddon Heights Child Study Team and Providers want you to know that we are anxious to support you and your family during remote instruction and always. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
